On 3 July 2022, Mum for Mum celebrated the strength of women’s support for each other by holding an event in honor of our 170 wonderful volunteers.
At the Ritz cinema in Randwick, Sydney, friends of Mum for Mum, volunteers, staff, and Board members gathered for a viewing of the documentary Rosemary’s Way, which outlines the story of Rosemary Kariuki, pictured center.
We were honored to have Rosemary and her friends as guests. Rosemary gave a fascinating firsthand account of her experiences since the film’s release, and since winning 2021 Australian of the Year Local Hero Award.
Following the event, Rosemary agreed to join Mum for Mum as an Ambassador, recognizing the wonderful synergy and alignment between our two organizations.
Rosemary fled Kenya for Australia in 1999, and since then has devoted herself to strengthening the ties of isolated women to their community. She has supported vulnerable migrant and refugee women in Western Sydney struggling to overcome domestic violence and financial distress. Her role as a Multicultural Community Liaison Officer for NSW Police has also enabled her to support women in the CALD community.
Pictured with her at the event on 3 July are Dianne Schaffer (left), Mum for Mum Board President, and Nadene Alhadeff (right), Mum for Mum’s Executive Director.
